A few changes + an update of Ty’s life

27" iMac

Once again I have made a few changes. I think I spend more time dinging around with my site and moving things around than actually posting anything. I decided since my blog redesign turned out pretty cool and that I was never going to get around to my Flex build of this site that I would just make the blog my site again like it once was. Maybe in a few months when I post again I will have changed it back who knows lol.

Just as an update I am stilling kickin it doing web development though I have changed it up a bit. I took a full time job at one of my clients (Christopherson Travel) and am back to doing Monkey Scratch Designs on the side. It has been a pretty good deal to have consistent work in this economy, in fact I have been swamped with work between the new job and Monkey Scratch clients (tonight happens to be laid back, hence the reason for writing this post). I’ve really enjoyed working with the guys at Christopherson Travel, they are super l337 programmers and I have learned a ton, especially in the realm of Java.

iPad

Because of the recent changes, the home office build up has got put on hold because I am not home enough these days to justify it, and trust me I am good at justifying. I did, however, get a 27″ iMac at Christopherson which is totally awesome! I was also excited to see the recent release of the Apple iPad. I know some of you think it is just a big iPhone and that dispute may have some merit, but because I am a so called “Mac Monk”, as coined by my Christopherson pals, I will have to get one just because it’s THAT cool. In fact, one in every room in the house would be sweet! (I do have a logical argument for this so if your curious just ask) Some of you may be thinking “That’s ridiculous Ty!” but honestly would you expect anything less from me? So thats the skinny. If we haven’t chilled for awhile then we should so give me a shout!

Life altering decision

Factory Five '33 Hot Rod

'33 Hot Rod

While helping in the preparation of ‘Ratilla the Hun’ (Sean’s rat rod project) I have decided that I need a hot rod in my life. I believe its the missing piece in my life that I have been searching for since I first saw the movie American Graffiti and fell in love with John Milner’s ‘32 Ford Douce Coupe. The decision I am up against is selling Emmy (my ‘99 BMW M3) and possibly my BWM F800ST motorcycle in order to take on such a project. Keep in mind that this hot rod must become my daily driver so my dream of a monster big block engine will have to wait for the next project as this rod must have a covered bonnet (aka hood) so I can drive it in the rain. I’m currently researching the Factory Five ‘33 Hot Rod kit car that I believe will fulfill my daily driver requirement. I’m thinking a Ford Racing 4.6L Aluminator crate motor with Whipple supercharger (Though the supercharger could wait awhile) with a T-56 Manual 6-speed Tranny behind it. I need some feedback as well as some reality checks of what you all think. My perception of what is realistic is often skewed by my ridiculous dreams and the fact that I tend to overkill everything I do.

Blog 2.0 & New Servers

Well I finally found a little time to update the look and feel of my blog. I have been busy with work which is a good thing but it has distracted me from stuff like this. I recently upgraded all the servers on my rack and finally got everything (including this blog you are reading now) migrated over, so in my spare time I have been playing with them rather than writing. For those of you that like tech specs here is the basics of what I got on my rack:

  • 24-port 100BASE-T switch with 2 Gigabit ports
  • 8-port KVM
  • Firewall – Quad Core Xeon w/4GB RAM & and a 4-port network card.
  • Web/App Server – Dual Quad Core XEON w/8GB RAM
  • Database Server – Dual Quad Core XEON w/8GB RAM
  • Monitor & Keyboard

All systems have RAID 1 (Mirroring) for redundancy and protection against any single drive failure. The entire rack is also on separate circuit breakers as well as battery backup. Later on I will expose the details of my setup. I am currently in the process of building the ultimate desk, or in my mind a personal NOC/Command Center. Majority of the desk is still in the design phase, however I did just get my Ergotron LX arms for my triple monitor setup which is soon expanding to a penta-monitor setup (hopefully). Anyway thats the down low as of late. I plan to create an entire page here on my home office/server room setup that I will keep as up-to-date as possible. Until next time I hope you have enjoyed my ramblings.

Emmy choking on seafoam

Basically I either have no time to blog or just suck at it. Maybe it’s a combination? I do, however, have time to make videos of Sean and I playing with seafoam. Enjoy!

First post from iPhone

Hello! I would like to dedicate this post to my cousin Jennica who said I need to update my blog. This is my first post ever from my iPhone. I have had the capability to do this before however I never bothered trying. The Wordpress app for iPhone is pretty slick and you should give it a try if you have an iPhone and blog with Wordpress. So far Thanksgiving weekend has been good, spending it with family and all. More details coming soon!

New Website Additions

Hello all,

If you are reading this post you have most likely noticed that 1) Its been a while since my last post and 2) I have made a few changes to my website, adding a new homepage. I did this to facilitate access to other parts of my site for work and entertainment. I also added a picture of the day, or whenever I decide to change it, for your enjoyment as well as mine. The first picture titled “Space Candace”, as coined by Sean, is now on display for a limited time only (again I decide the definition of “Limited Time Only”).

Well I hope you have enjoyed todays’ post and will continue to visit my site to hear about all the ridiculous things I come up with. Dun dun dun….

Yellowstone Trip

So last weekend for Labor Day we (The fam including Candace & Sarah of course) took a little trip up to Yellowstone in the motorhome. It wouldn’t have worked out better if we planed it a year ago. Turned out my aunt and uncle, Marv & Mel, were also planning to go up to Yellowstone with their kids in their motorhome. We stayed at a new RV park right in town that was really nice and rented a 15 passenger van to cruise around in. The trip was mostly site seeing and driving through the park but it was a blast none the less. We even went swimming in Firehole river which was way fun. I havn’t seen all the pics yet but I think we got some good ones. Got a few little video clips as well. Check out The Falls and The Pole Jump.

Talk about being a slacker!

Basically I’m not so good at posting frequently which is probably why a journal has never worked out for me. Anyway lets catch up. After Pineview on the 10th the week was a fairly normal week until Wednesday (Cousin Bryan’s birthday) or Thursday when family started to gather for cousin Jarred’s wedding on Friday. It was up in Sundance and it was really nice and well done. Uncle Marv’s band, Joe Friday, played and there was dancing. It was a great event and we are all really happy and excited for Jarred. Ok so then Saturday rolls along… about 12 of us (mostly Cameron’s) including Candace went sky diving, it was absolutely amazing. I can’t even describe it, but what a rush! Even my great uncle Don at 66 years old, after he got a little mind control, jumped! WOW! what a day.

The following Monday, August 18th 2008, was my bro Treq’s 21st birthday. Among other things we went to dinner and bowling and had a blast. Treq is the coolest kid and the best brother anyone could have. Followed by another work week was this last weekend’s camping trip to Mirror Lake in the Uintas with Candace’s family and Sean. Basically Sean rocks my face and has always been a great friend. His birthday was just this last Sunday the 24th. Talk about an action packed couple of weeks huh? So is that a good enough excuse for not keeping up on my posts? Not a chance huh, okay fine at least I tried. Until next time I bid you all adieu!

Pineview August 7th – August 10th

Our Lake Powell trip got postponed but in the meantime we replaced it with an awesome trip to Pineview. Since it is a joke to get a spot at Anderson Cove, Candace left work Thursday around 4pm and sat up there all day reserving us a couple spots, how cool is that. Thanks Candace, your the BEST! by Friday night we had the Camerons & Pitchers chillin at the campground. It wasn’t perfect skiing water but it was a nice relaxed trip with plenty of sun, swimming and tubbing. I think about all of us got WORKED on the tube. Other than the retarded hosts at the campground the trip was way fun and a good get away for the weekend. Like seriously it is a novel in itself the storys of the MORON camp hosts, ask me about it sometime cause it’s too much to write about. The trip ended Sunday evening with dinner at Olive garden. Hooray for Boating!!!

My 25th Birthday

Woke up, got out of bed, dragged a comb across my head…. wait this sounds like a Beatles song not my birthday. Anyway it started similarly. Candace, Sean and dad all took the day off so they were with me the whole day which was awesome. Went to breakfast at Marketstreet Grill which needs no futher explaination cause it was incredible as usual. Treq also ended up taking off work by this time and met up with us. We then headed up to Park City to ride the alpine slide, coaster, and make our way through the human maze. Ok so I made the maze sound cooler than it really was, whatEV! We hung out of a bit then headed back downtown to drop off mom and the girls. The rest of us went to Momentum to do some rock climbing which was epic as normal. Then it was dinner at Teppanyaki, which also needs no futher explaination. After which we all went to my house for dessert with the inclusion of Grandma McPhee, Adam, Casie, Chad, Audrey, Colby, Carley, and Sarah. I got some pretty cool gifts to name a few: lawn mower, sweet watch, rad hat, dope headlamp, and the sumo tube. It was a good day, now hopefully my insurance really goes down or is that just a myth?
