Life altering decision

Factory Five '33 Hot Rod

'33 Hot Rod

While helping in the preparation of ‘Ratilla the Hun’ (Sean’s rat rod project) I have decided that I need a hot rod in my life. I believe its the missing piece in my life that I have been searching for since I first saw the movie American Graffiti and fell in love with John Milner’s ’32 Ford Douce Coupe. The decision I am up against is selling Emmy (my ’99 BMW M3) and possibly my BWM F800ST motorcycle in order to take on such a project. Keep in mind that this hot rod must become my daily driver so my dream of a monster big block engine will have to wait for the next project as this rod must have a covered bonnet (aka hood) so I can drive it in the rain. I’m currently researching the Factory Five ’33 Hot Rod kit car that I believe will fulfill my daily driver requirement. I’m thinking a Ford Racing 4.6L Aluminator crate motor with Whipple supercharger (Though the supercharger could wait awhile) with a T-56 Manual 6-speed Tranny behind it. I need some feedback as well as some reality checks of what you all think. My perception of what is realistic is often skewed by my ridiculous dreams and the fact that I tend to overkill everything I do.

Blog 2.0 & New Servers

Well I finally found a little time to update the look and feel of my blog. I have been busy with work which is a good thing but it has distracted me from stuff like this. I recently upgraded all the servers on my rack and finally got everything (including this blog you are reading now) migrated over, so in my spare time I have been playing with them rather than writing. For those of you that like tech specs here is the basics of what I got on my rack:

  • 24-port 100BASE-T switch with 2 Gigabit ports
  • 8-port KVM
  • Firewall – Quad Core Xeon w/4GB RAM & and a 4-port network card.
  • Web/App Server – Dual Quad Core XEON w/8GB RAM
  • Database Server – Dual Quad Core XEON w/8GB RAM
  • Monitor & Keyboard

All systems have RAID 1 (Mirroring) for redundancy and protection against any single drive failure. The entire rack is also on separate circuit breakers as well as battery backup. Later on I will expose the details of my setup. I am currently in the process of building the ultimate desk, or in my mind a personal NOC/Command Center. Majority of the desk is still in the design phase, however I did just get my Ergotron LX arms for my triple monitor setup which is soon expanding to a penta-monitor setup (hopefully). Anyway thats the down low as of late. I plan to create an entire page here on my home office/server room setup that I will keep as up-to-date as possible. Until next time I hope you have enjoyed my ramblings.
